Jacob Schermer

Associate

Jacob Schermer is a 2017 graduate of McGill University and a 2020 graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. In law school, he was selected as a Peggy Browning fellow and served as a law clerk in the legal department of the Service Employees International Union. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as in-house counsel for International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Automobile Mechanics Local 701. He joined Dowd, Bloch, Bennett, Cervone, Auerbach & Yokich as an associate in 2022.

His practice is concentrated in the representation of union-sponsored employee benefit funds. He advises clients as to plan design and plan benefit administration, reviews qualified domestic relations orders and other benefit-related matters, and provides general advice on ERISA, HIPAA, and Internal Revenue Code compliance. He also represents our union clients in a variety of labor matters. Jacob is admitted to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
